The European Language Certificate


The telc language certificates are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and judges individual language competence according to universally accepted criteria. Thus you will be able to show proof of your foreign language competence because a telc certificate is recognized all-over Europe.

At Ehrstein all telc language tests are offered, both written and oral, and on all language levels from A1 to C2.

Ehrstein offers a preparation course for each level of the telc test in which you will be systematically prepared for all sections – both written and oral -   of the test by specially trained teachers (see telc exam preparation).

Start Deutsch 1/ telc Deutsch A1

(after approx. 100 – 150 hours of instruction)
The exam consists of two parts: written and oral. The written part lasts 65 min. The oral part then usually follows without any further preparation time.
When applying for a visa for the subsequent immigration of a spouse, you will need proof of a "basic knowledge of German". German embassies will recognize the telc Deutsch A1 certificate for this purpose.

Start Deutsch 2 / telc Deutsch A2

(after approx. 250 – 300 hours of instruction)
The telc Deutsch A2 test consists of two parts: written and oral. The written test lasts 70 min. The oral test usually follows without any further preparation time.

Zertifikat Deutsch/ telc Deutsch B1

In Germany the telc Deutsch B1 is recognized as proof of sufficient language knowledge in order to become a naturalized citizen.

For school pupils we recommend the Zertifikat Deutsch für Jugendliche / telc Deutsch B1 Schule.

For business purposes the telc Deutsch B1+ Beruf is best suited.

The test consists of two parts: written and oral. The written test lasts 2 hours and 30 min. Before the oral test you have 20 minutes preparation time. The oral test usually takes place on the same day as the written test.

telc Deutsch B2

telc Deutsch B2 tests your general German knowledge on an advanced level.

For business purposes the telc Deutsch B2+ Beruf is best suited.

The test consists of two parts: a written and an oral part. The written test lasts 2 hours and 20 minutes. Before the oral test you have 20 minutes to prepare. The oral test usually takes place on the same day as the written test.

telc Deutsch B1-B2 Pflege

telc Deutsch B1-B2 Pflege is a special language test for those  involved in care for the elderly and in nursing care. In grammar and vocabulary it is on the same level as the above mentioned B1 and B2 tests.

The test is open to everyone but is intended for persons who have a recognized qualification in a health care profession and who need proof of B1 or B2 language knowledge of German to practice their profession in Germany.

The test consists of a written and an oral part. The written test lasts 1 hour and 55 minutes. Before the oral part you have 20 minutes of preparation time. The oral test usually takes place on the same day as the written test.

telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule

The telc test German C1 is intended for adults who need German for studies at a university.

The examination consists of a written and an oral part. The written examination lasts 3 hours and 40 minutes (incl. a 20-minute break). Before the oral examination, you have 20 minutes of preparation time.

telc Deutsch C2

This test on the level of C2 is intended for domestic students or graduate students, or applicants for specific professions which demand excellent German knowledge or advanced students of German abroad.

The test consists of a written and an oral part. The written test lasts 4 hours and 10 minutes. Before the oral test you have a preparation time of 20 minutes. The oral test usually takes place on the same day as the written test.
